The dayly routine between here in Canmore and Nakiska, dryland, grocery shopping, video,tuning, and tons of e-mails to reply takes the days away like crazy, I don’t even remember which day is today!
After the first week dedicated to GS and super G, we got back to SL and we had three good days of SL training,
Day one on red crow on the left side, always wanted to go there.
Day two on red crow on the steep session.
Day three on Map Maker on the flat and roly session……good variety!
we now got three days in a row of good GS skiing in Nakiska and the weather is back to normal;
a bit windy (we were supposed to run super G with the Italian womens today but the speed lane was cancelled because of strong wind) we had great GS training on the the other hill ( more sheltered once you are between the trees)
Tomorrow the plan is the same: super G and gS skiis with us and if the weather (the wind) will cooperate we will run Super G with Sweden, if not we will train gS.
Here we are at nakiska again!
We got to canmore yesterday in the afternoon flying in to calgary in the morning and despite the very little snow around it all looked good.
Planned to train GS on red crow in the morning session we got to nakiska under the rain.
I got a ticket for myself to go up and check the slopes before to get the crew up and I found a 30cm heavy wet snow layer sitting on top of the groomed run.
Everyone was leaving; I went for a run to check it out myself and I got to the conclusion that it was not safe or good even to freeski.
Good news the new uniforms were dry inside!!
Back to canmore and just planned a good dryland session for the afternoon.
Let’s hope for tomorrow!
The Summer camp is over and it is time to analyze how it went.
We got to ski 36 days in total, with exceptional conditions I would say; just one day was windy and cloudy, and not one day we have been restricted to no setting.
In August we had some warm days but we always got to train in the morning and the snow was always good and never too soft.
I must say we got also a bit lucky as Saas Fee was closed for 3/4 days in a row while we were in school and during the excursion.
The balance between SL and GS training end up being good, slightly more GS days then SL if I consider the Glalom days.
We got also to run some Super G freeskiing in Zermatt in preparation to proper super G training at the fall camp out west.
The Team got a bit tired towards the end, but always responded well at training.
Now after a week of deserved rest it is time for the girls to dig in hard with dryland and increase strength and power looking forward to great training in the fal before the race season starts.
Three days of skiing left in zermatt before to fly back to Canada;
conditions are exeptionals, still summer here in Europe despite the calendar shows October 1st.
We have a very good variety of hill space between SL and GS and after a deserved day off we are back on snow for the final three days of training.
Very happy with the Team effort in making changes and get better these days, fatigue is diggin in and the sun is taking a lot out of us but it has been a great camp so far!
The weather is great…even too good and the forecast is for 10 more days of summer in switzerland; well we the glaciers could benefit of some snow but for us like this is way better, nice and sunny and the snow is great!
after two days of GS we are back on sL for a couple of days; some of the girls are carrying super G as well and after 8/10 runs on a 65 sL gates course they jump on Super G and shot some runs on the speed lane on skiers right…..it would be great to do it from the very top where the wC terams are starting….we will see…..
We got to zermatt yesterday in the early afternoon ( I got here in the early morning with Jimmy in order to organize hill space, tickets and….food);
as soon as chris and Nick got here we brought the gates up to the glacier and enjoyed a relaxing ride up and down from teh Klein Matterhorn.
Did a bit of work in the ski room, which we share with the austrian team, and we are ready to go.
The snow is very good, softer then Saaas Fee but very much wintery and the temperature is ideal, not too cold but cold enough to keep the snow good.
GS was very good today and few also got theyr firsr day on Super G after the training;
tomorrow they will warm up on Super G skis and switch on GS after……unless the speed lane is available…..
